My career started in tree surgery and within the Armed Forces.  When I left the Armed Forces I began my housing journey as a customer assistant working on the Arbed 2 Welsh Government scheme to improve the energy efficiency of housing stock.  Melin are a fantastic innovative employer and I was given the encouragement and opportunity to qualify as home energy adviser. Once qualified this role enabled me to get out and about within local communities and make a real and lasting impact to our residents energy bills, empowering them with the knowledge to switch suppliers and make significant savings with their household expenditure.

During that time, I had the opportunity to work on secondment at Melin within the Income and Inclusion Team to provide cover for the rent recovery team. I found this a rewarding and challenging role which enabled me to improve my people skills and diplomacy and secure tenancies for our residents. An opportunity arose for an employment advisor, working alongside our money advisor’s and rent recovery officers.   I have now been in this role for the past three years and found it immensely rewarding.  Melin’s commitment as an organisation to it’s residents has allowed me to make positive changes to our residents lives with a range of measures to support people back into work or enhance the opportunities of the residents that are already working.
