The role is so rewarding, every day I am working to help people have a better quality of life

Leslie loves working in housing, no two days are the same!
After starting his career in the banking sector 18 years ago Leslie was looking for a career change, and a role that provided fulfilment. He started his housing carer in 2013 as a lettings co-ordinator, before moving to the rent team, and then as a rent manager.

In 2019 Leslie joined Melin as a Money Advisor in the Income & Inclusion team.

Leslie says:

“Every day is different in my role. From contacting our service partners to assisting our residents with different queries. At present, the majority of my day is spent on the phone in front of a computer but when everything returns to some sort of normality it will be visiting tenants in their homes to provide assistance.”

“I love the variety of the work I do. No one has the same query although it may sound the same it usually isn’t. The role is so rewarding, every day I am working to help people have a better quality of life.”

“The role can be challenging , with changes in regulations with benefits, but the team and wider housing sector has a wealth of knowledge and someone will always know the answer. The last year we have met challenges with helping residents during the pandemic, but we have managed this well and hopefully we can resume face to face services soon. We have all missed meeting our residents in person, nothing beats that.”

“The team I work with are more than colleagues, they are my friends. The organisation is very supportive in different aspects which I think is brilliant and especially during the past 12/13 months. My mental wellbeing has never been so good and it’s good to know the organisation cares.”

“If you are looking for a rewarding, varied career then I cannot recommend housing enough.”
