I spent the first 21 years of my career working at a bank, but the last 16 years with Newydd has already given me so much more in terms of experience and knowledge. In recent years, I have been supported through two university courses; a housing qualification and community regeneration PGC – and these have really added to my sense of job satisfaction.
I started my journey as a Customer Service Advisor before moving to a Housing Assistant role to help with housing and estate management, rent arrears and anti-social behaviour. A Community Regeneration Administrator role soon became available and I was involved in organising tenant participation and youth work projects before becoming Community Regeneration Officer. Now I oversee education, employment and training.
I don’t have a ‘typical day’ and that’s what I love about my job. I could be at interview sessions in local schools in the morning, and in the afternoon I could be running an employment workshop. No two days are the same.
We now run introductory and taster courses ranging from safeguarding, first aid and food hygiene to customer service and stewarding and have recently established a bricklaying apprenticeship with local partners. These qualifications help move learners closer to the job market, and we successfully support tenants (and the wider community) into full and part-time employment, apprenticeships and work experience. There’s a lot going on, so there’s no typical week; my job is never ever boring!
