In truth, having worked on-site in the construction industry for several years, I knew that the time had come for me to move from working outside into a warmer environment. So, when an administration position in Property Services for Pembrokeshire Housing Association, now ateb Group, came up, I jumped at the opportunity.  

As the organisation has grown, my role has changed considerably. Initially I was able to put my site experience to good use but with the encouragement given by ateb for personal development, I’ve been able to undertake a wide variety of training courses, since I joined the Association over 12 years ago.  

I’ve achieved an NVQ in Business Administration and more recently an ILM Leadership and Management qualification through Chwarae Teg. These have increased my knowledge and skillset, so I am now able to work on a wide range of different and interesting projects as well as the “day“ job. I love that I get to work with a variety of teams, from Finance to Property Services, and on a wide selection of projects, such as our digital transformation. 

ateb encourages innovation and I’ve recently become a Brand Champion, meaning I have added responsibilities such as ensuring my team are producing ‘on brand’ work as well as getting to add content to our social media streams. I’m very proud of our teams and the new homes we develop and maintain, so the opportunity to shout about how we are creating better living solutions is most rewarding. I love my job and working for ateb, I work with a great team of supportive people in an enthusiastic forward-looking organisation. 

To anyone considering working for a housing association I would say “Go for it and give it your very best shot”. You’ll see how your personal contribution brings benefits to the wider community and have the satisfaction of knowing you are making a real difference.
