Housing Associations, I can’t believe I didn’t know they existed.

(2-minute read)

If I am honest before joining ateb I knew nothing about housing associations, I didn’t even know they existed!  12 years ago I was living and working in Oxford for the NHS and my family wanted to relocate back to Wales.  I was looking for any HR job that cropped up in the area we were looking at and I saw a HR post being advertised for Pembrokeshire Housing, now ateb.  I thought I would give it go and I was offered the role.

I was a little apprehensive to start with, moving from a large NHS trust with over 9,500 staff to a small organisation with about 90 staff at the time. I wondered if I would have enough to do!  How wrong was I! Reflecting on the last 12 years I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at ateb, the organisation has grown, and my role has grown too as I now look after communications.  I have had the freedom to work on a wide range of projects, expanding my knowledge and experience something that I wouldn’t have been able to do so easily in my previous role as we worked in very specialised roles.

I have been amazed at the variety of roles available in housing association and have been really impressed at the support our teams provide to our customers. I can’t believe that I didn’t know about housing associations before I joined as I feel they are fantastic places to work, I am not constrained by the endless bureaucracy that I often faced in my previous role, there are so many opportunities to innovate and what I feel passionate about is that I can really see the impact of the work that the ateb team has on creating better living solutions for the communities we serve.
