Ffion found a career path with Cartrefi Conwy

Ffion Lloyd has been working for Cartrefi Conwy for nine years, and loves how much she’s learned about the sector in this time. She tells us how she went from an apprentice administrator, to her new role as Property Project Coordinator:

“I had decided when I left school that University wasn’t the right option for me, so when I saw a position advertised with Cartrefi Conwy as an apprentice administrator, I saw it as an opportunity to start building a career.

Over the last nine years, I’ve held a variety of roles with Cartrefi Conwy, as well as with the Creating Enterprise arm of the organisation. I didn’t know much about social housing before I started my apprenticeship, but I soon came to realise there was much more to it than just a housing provider.

There are so many routes in to a career with a housing association, and there’s something for everyone, whether that’s finance, HR, IT, communications, working directly with tenants, construction and many others. As an apprentice, I had an overview of the organisation as a whole, and was able to get a good idea of the career path I wanted to follow and where my skills were best suited.

Since beginning my current role as Property Project Coordinator in November, I work even closer with different teams across the organisation. I act as the bridge between departments within Cartrefi Conwy, and with external contractors. My main responsibility is managing the asset database to ensure all our properties are maintained to the Welsh Housing Quality Stantard , being the point of contact for tenants and the community for the development team, driving our social value in the contracts we manage and delivering community benefits.

I also work closely with the communications team, making sure that they have all the information needed to promote our schemes across the organisation and to the public. I even support with social media content and post updates about the developments.

Luckily, my role hasn’t had to change much because of Covid-19, and I’ve been able to work from home throughout the pandemic. It’s been nice to speak with tenants over the phone more often, and do things differently.

I can’t see myself working for anyone other than a housing association now!”
